Queen of Hearts Raffle Rules
For those unfamiliar with this type of raffle, here’s a quick overview of how it works.
A deck of playing cards including the 2 jokers is placed randomly one card per envelope and sealed. The envelopes are then numbered randomly 1 through 54 and displayed in numerical order in our locked Queen of Hearts case. No one knows what card is in what envelope.
Tickets are sold each week for $2 each and can be purchased at the legion at any time, or at a special sale table between 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm on drawing day which is currently Tuesday. You can purchase as many tickets as you wish. You will write three pieces of information legibly on the portion of the ticket that we keep - your name, your phone number, AND THE NUMBER OF THE ENVELOPE YOU WANT OPENED IF YOU WIN THIS WEEK’S RAFFLE DRAWING. You will keep the other portion of the ticket (similar to the process with 50/50 raffle tickets).
There will be a WEEKLY drawing every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. You need NOT be present to win. We will contact you. When the drawing is held, a single ticket will be drawn. The envelope number on that ticket is the number that will be taken from the Queen of Hearts case and opened. If the ticket drawn does not contain an envelope number, the envelope drawn defaults to the highest envelope not yet chosen. The owner of the winning ticket will be awarded a prize based on the below:
If a 2 through 10 is in the envelope, the winner gets $15.
If a Face Card is in the envelope – Jack, Queen (EXCLUDING the Queen of Hearts), King or Ace - the winner gets $50.
If a Joker is in the envelope, the winner gets $100.
If the Queen of Hearts is in the envelope, the winner gets 60% of the total pot.
THE DOLLAR AMOUNT IN THE POT WILL BE UPDATED DAILY AS TICKETS ARE SOLD AND WILL BE DISPLAYED PROMINENTLY ON THE QUEEN OF HEARTS INFORMATION BOARD, AS WELL AS ELSEWHERE IN THE LEGION.
Until the Queen of Hearts envelope is opened, the money remaining in the pot (minus the $15, $50, or $100 payout shown above is subtracted) will roll over to next week’s drawing. All losing tickets from the completed drawing are discarded and new tickets go on sale for next week’s drawing immediately. So, the raffle could last anywhere from 1 to 54 weeks. The longer it goes without the Queen of Hearts appearing, the bigger the pot!!
Once the Queen of Hearts envelope is opened, the raffle has ended. The winner is awarded 60% of the pot which they have 60 days to claim. The remaining 40% goes to the Legion Building Fund. The pot resets to $0 and a new raffle begins. The remaining unopened envelopes are removed and discarded, 54 new envelopes containing 54 new cards are placed in the case and a new raffle begins.
(NOTE: The weekly drawing winner has 7 days to claim their prize (60 days for a jackpot). We will make 5 attempts to contact the winner. If unsuccessful, their winnings will remain in the pot for the next week’s drawing).
